Ashvasanchalanasana is a low lunge posture with the chest lifted while the palms remain grounded on either side of the front foot. The name comes from the Sanskrit words ashva, meaning “horse,” sanchalana, meaning ” movement”.
Ashvasanchalanasana is considered a balancing posture because the spine lengthens upwards while the hands are grounded. It also provides a range of physical benefits like stretching the quadriceps, and deep iliopsoas muscle. The iliopsoas contributes heavily toward everyday activities like walking and running.
It is also called the Equestrian posture or the Lunge pose. From vajrasana, sit up tall, with right foot forward, align your knee with your foot, making sure that your right knee and right ankle are in line. Move your right foot forward, push your hip forward fully, open your chest up and look up to the sky. Repeat with the left foot.
